The ground floor of 13-17 Commercial Street, former site of Dundee’s Toymaster shop, has been abandoned since 2019. However, the upper floors of the building have been unsuitable for any kind of use for far longer.

Evident in its condition, the building has fallen into complete disrepair, with fences sealing its doors shut since 2020. The building was originally built in the 1870s.

Local Police closed the road around 13:30 today, whilst two fire engines took charge of the scene.

Two firefighters could then be seen in a hydraulic platform inspecting the damage, tapping parts of the structure to let any loose tiles fall in a controlled manner. A policeman stated that “debris has fallen from the roof and they [the firefighters] are currently trying to make sure the site is safe.”

The building is currently listed as “at risk” by local authorities, and it is unknown whether it can be repaired in future.

No one has been confirmed injured.
