This afternoon, in an all staff email Interim Principal Shane O'Neill has announced that the voluntary severance scheme will launch next week.

The voluntary severance scheme will allow staff to 'volunteer' for redundancy, which in the previous SRC meeting, VP Education Blair Grubb noted that this may appeal to staff close to retirement.

The email also detailed that the interim principal has submitted a request to the Scottish Funding Council for further financial support for each of the next two academic years. O'Neill said "the additional support is necessary as we continue to make our recovery".

The email did not disclose the exact amount requested, however O'Neill said "we are making a substantial ask, which is reflective of the level of support needed around the proposals for a reduction in our staffing of up to 300 FTE via a voluntary scheme".

It is unknown what the port of call will be if 300 FTE equivalent roles do not volunteer for redundancy.

This is a breaking news story, updates will be provided as and when received.
