DJCAD Undergraduate 2025 Degree Show Unveiled

Eva Milne

The DJCAD Undergraduate Degree Show is the best time of year for me (a non-art student) and one of the most stressful times for final year DJCAD students. An opportunity of celebration for years of hard work they’ve invested and a platform to launch their creative careers post-university.

The 2025 exhibition opens to the public tomorrow until Sunday 1st June and there is a colossal amount of work on show; each piece the pinnacle of each student’s time at university. The extensive list of disciplines only provides a small insight into what’s on show this year with a showcase of talented students amounting each discipline. Whatever you are interested in, there is something for you:

  • Architecture

  • Illustration

  • Urban Planning & Environmental Sustainability

  • Animation

  • Digital Interaction Design

  • Product Design

  • Contemporary Art Practice

  • Graphic Design

  • Textile Design

  • Jewellery and Metal Design

Over 450 graduating students’ work is on show over the 10 days. Tomorrow there will be a range of free presentations and events where students will be sharing more information on their work; something you cannot miss if you want to gain more insight into the talented work on show.

The showcase succeeds in diversity- not just in medium (as is clear from the multitude of disciplines) but in emotional resonance and conceptual range. When I say there is something for everyone- there seriously is. Whether it’s the inward gaze of isolation or the rich chaos of everyday life, each piece holds its own space whilst contributing to a broader conversation about how we inhabit and interpret the world; perhaps the very essence of university.

The Degree show is one of the highlights of my year; its less an exhibition than a conversation you walk into midway and leave with fragments still echoing. If you want to get the most out of it, it’s a visit you need to make on multiple occasions.

Over the course of the degree show, The Jute will be publishing a series of artist profiles which showcase specific artists, the processes and inspirations behind their work. So if you don’t manage to catch all of it or just need another degree show fix, head on over to our website for some deep dives into a few of many talented artists.
